Winter Village – the other quiet winter Postcard from Iris Esther

By now, almost everyone is asleep.

Snow has settled over the fields and rooftops, and the countryside has become completely still. Behind the windows, the last warm lights are glowing, while outside two little Christmas trees quietly illuminate the snow.

There is something I love about the countryside on a winter night. The darkness feels darker, the distances somehow bigger, and when there is snow, even the smallest sounds seem to disappear. The whole landscape appears to be resting.

But not quite everyone has gone to sleep.

Between the houses, a little fox is making his way through the snow — perhaps searching for something, perhaps simply passing through. For a moment, it feels as though the entire sleeping village belongs to him. The Christmas lights are still twinkling, the moon hangs quietly above the fields, and nobody is there to see him go by.

Winter Village is an illustration about that particular kind of Christmas stillness I love so much: the moment after the day has ended, when the lights are still glowing but the world outside has gone wonderfully quiet.

A nostalgic winter postcard for Christmas wishes, a seasonal display, or simply for anyone who loves the quiet magic of the countryside in winter.
