The Deer Feeder – Illustrated Winter Postcard from Iris Esther

The Deer Feeder

Winter can be a rather difficult time when you’re a small creature living in the woods.

The snow has covered almost everything, the trees have long since lost their leaves, and finding a decent breakfast can become quite an adventure.

But luckily, someone has thought of that.

As i have always lived close to deer fields, feeding the deers in winter has always been part of my favorite childhood memories. So I painted a young woman, on a cold winter morning who has made her way into the snowy forest, carrying a basket filled with food for the deer. And looking at the little gathering around her, her kindness hasn’t gone unnoticed.

I made this illustration as a little reminder of something I think we sometimes forget: that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a world of difference.

Especially on the coldest days of the year.
