Postcard from Iris Esther - Sint en Piep

All aboard — there are presents to deliver.

Meet Sintermuis and Piep, sailing through the dark winter water with a boat full of presents.

I originally created Sintermuis as my own tiny, mouse-sized version of the Dutch Sinterklaas tradition — complete with his red mitre, golden staff and a very important job to do.

This is the second postcard in which he appears, this time accompanied by his Pieps and a rather ambitious stack of presents. One little mouse rows, another keeps watch from high above, while Sintermuis stands proudly at the bow as they make their way through the snowy Dutch landscape.

A playful little celebration of pakjesavond, childhood anticipation and mouse-sized magic.

Lovely to send as a Sinterklaas greeting, tuck into a shoe with a little note, as a present or display at home throughout the season.

Sintermuis was originally created and illustrated by Iris Esther.
