Hibernation – The Quiet Art of Resting postcard from Iris Esther

Hibernation – The Silent Art of Resting
There is something rather wonderful about the way nature knows when to rest.

When winter arrives, the trees let go of their leaves, the woodland creatures curl up in their little hiding places, and the world seems to slow down. Nobody tells the bears they ought to be doing something more productive. Nobody asks the trees why they aren’t growing.

And yet, we humans can be terribly bad at giving ourselves the same permission.

Hibernation was born from that very thought. From the longing to retreat for a little while, to be still, to feel safe and warm, and to remember that not every season of life is meant for growing, blooming or doing.

Painted entirely in oils, this artwork shows a young girl resting peacefully among sleeping bears, a fox and a little rabbit, tucked away from the winter world.

I wanted to capture that feeling of being held by nature. Of having nowhere to be, nothing to prove and absolutely no reason to hurry.

Perhaps winter has something rather important to teach us after all.

Even the loveliest things need time to rest.
