A Grimm’s fairytale postcard from Iris Esther - The Frog Prince

Some fairytales stay with us long after childhood — like the memory of pages turning during a bedtime story.  This postcard is inspired by The Frog Prince from the Brothers Grimm, one of the oldest and most beloved fairytales ever written.

In this illustration, a young princess kneels beside the forest pond, reaching toward the frog who holds her golden ball upon a lily pad. Sunlight spills softly through the trees while wildflowers bloom along the water’s edge. I tried to  wrap the scene in the stillness of an old woodland tale. There is something tender here: the beginning of trust and pinky promises whispered beside the water.

I have always loved nostalgic fairytales — the kind filled with forests, hidden ponds, golden crowns, and small moments that carry great meaning. With this illustration, I wanted to capture that feeling of stepping into an old storybook for just a little while, where nature and wonder still belong together.

Painted with pencil and gouache, this postcard is an ode to the warm and heartfelt spirit of the Grimm Brother’s fairytales, a wonderful card for fairytale lovers, seasonal tables, children’s rooms, nature-inspired spaces, or for sending a thoughtful note through the post.
