Few fairytales are as deeply woven into our collective imagination as Little Red Riding Hood. For generations, children have followed the winding forest path alongside the little girl in the red cloak, holding their breath as the wolf appears between the trees. It is one of the most beloved tales collected by the Brothers Grimm and a story that continues to capture hearts around the world.

In this illustration, Roodkapje pauses along her journey through the woodland, basket in hand and wildflowers gathered carefully for her grandmother. The wolf watches from between the trees, while golden autumn light spills across the forest floor and grandmother’s tiny cottage waits in the distance. The scene captures that unforgettable moment when curiosity, courage, and uncertainty meet beneath the branches.

When drawing up this piece, I wanted it to be an ode to one of Grimm’s most famous fairytales — not the frightening parts of the story, but the feeling of wandering through an enchanted woodland. The warm autumn colours, woodland flowers, and soft evening light were all chosen to recreate the nostalgia of old storybooks and treasured childhood memories.
