Pierre Joseph Redouté was a well-known flower painter. Especially his rose and lily watercolors are world famous. In Paris, he painted more than 500 pictures for a comprehensive royal collection of animal and plant pictures - the 'velins du roi' - and was then appointed court painter of the French royal family. The greatest fame reached Redouté with the very magnificently printed three-volume work, Les Roses', which appeared from 1817 on. He then worked until his death as a drawing teacher in Paris.
This postcard book shows 20 paintings by the French painter (1759 - 1840).
